Fabric vs Forge for Hypixel SkyBlock in 2026

Short version. In 2026, Fabric is the right pick for new Hypixel SkyBlock setups. The SkyBlock-specific mod ecosystem (ASR, Skyblocker, SkyHanni) is Fabric-first; Forge is now a legacy branch for players still on 1.8.9 for FPS reasons.

The state of play in 2026

Three years ago "Hypixel SkyBlock mod loader" effectively meant Forge 1.8.9 (Patcher, OptiFine, Skytils, NEU). Fabric was unusable for SkyBlock because the version had nothing to mod.

Today: every actively-maintained SkyBlock mod has a Fabric build. Skyblocker started Fabric-native. SkyHanni supports both. ASR is Fabric-only. NEU's 1.21 Fabric port is in beta as of mid-2026. The "Forge 1.8 lock-in" era is over for most players.

What Fabric gives you on 1.21.11
